01 / ROUTE OVERVIEW

Pandas, flavors and everyday Sichuan

Begin with several days in Chengdu, combining a panda-base visit with neighborhoods, teahouses and Sichuan food. The city stay allows the trip to develop beyond one signature attraction, with an open cultural day to follow your interests.

Continue to the Leshan Giant Buddha, then explore Mount Emei’s Buddhist heritage and mountain scenery. Leave a quieter day after the main mountain visit before the return journey.

This suggested route can be adjusted for your dates, food preferences and walking comfort. It is a good fit for travelers who want a closer look at one region without repeatedly moving between distant cities.

DAY 01 Chengdu

Arrive in Chengdu

A giant panda among green bamboo
Chengdu

Settle into Chengdu before beginning the region’s better-known sights. A first stroll near your accommodation can introduce the city’s streets and food, while keeping arrival day easy after the journey.

Leave room for a quiet evening. The next several days stay in Chengdu, so there is no need to rush through an introductory list of attractions immediately.

DAY 02 Chengdu

Panda Base and local neighborhoods

Make the panda-base visit the focus of the day, allowing time to observe rather than moving quickly between viewing areas. Later, a neighborhood walk shifts attention from a signature attraction to the city around it.

Choose a manageable amount of walking across the two parts of the day. Animal activity varies, so patience and a quieter pace are more useful than a tight sequence of photo stops.

DAY 03 Chengdu

Teahouses and Sichuan food

Spend a day with the habits of the city: time seated in a teahouse and a closer look at Sichuan food. The contrast between a long tea break and the variety of local dishes makes this a less hurried cultural day.

Choose a few food interests rather than trying everything. Discuss spice levels and dietary needs in advance so the experience can be enjoyable for everyone traveling.

DAY 04 Chengdu

Flexible Chengdu culture day

Use another Chengdu day to develop the part of the city that interests you most. More neighborhood time, a food-focused walk or a quieter day of tea and observation can each add depth without adding another destination.

Set one main priority and leave the rest flexible. This day gives the city stay room to breathe before the journey moves toward Leshan and the mountains.

DAY 05 Leshan

Leshan Giant Buddha

Travel to Leshan to see the Giant Buddha and its cliffside setting, with time to notice the figure’s details and its relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Choose a visit that fits your comfort with steps and sustained walking. Leave time to look and understand the setting rather than treating Leshan as a quick stop between destinations.

DAY 06 Mount Emei

Transfer to Mount Emei

Continue to the Mount Emei area and settle into a mountain setting. The transfer day is a bridge between Leshan’s monumental heritage and a landscape in which religious places and forested slopes sit together.

Keep the first outing light if time allows. Use the afternoon or evening to decide how much walking and elevation change feels right for tomorrow’s mountain day.

DAY 07 Mount Emei

Emei mountain experience

Explore Mount Emei through a combination of mountain scenery and its Buddhist cultural setting. The experience can be shaped around selected viewpoints and religious sites, with pauses to notice the change from one part of the mountain to another.

Choose a route suited to steps, weather and your preferred effort level. A focused mountain day is more rewarding than trying to reach every possible area.

DAY 08 Mount Emei

Flexible retreat day

After the main mountain visit, leave a quieter day for the aspect of Emei you enjoyed most. A shorter walk, time near your accommodation or another gentle cultural visit can round out the mountain stay.

The open pace also allows for recovery after steps and travel. Use this day to enjoy being in the area rather than feeling obliged to complete another demanding route.

DAY 09 Mount Emei

Return and depart

Complete the Sichuan journey with the return connection and onward departure. Keep the day centered on the transfer, especially when a flight or train follows the return from the mountain area.

If your departure schedule needs more breathing room, discuss an additional night rather than compressing the final connection. A smooth finish is part of a well-paced regional trip.
